As a complete geomatics company, Plowman
Craven not only undertake the measurement of three-dimensional data,
we also specialise in its processing, modelling and presentation.
For us, the time spent on site, in the studio or on location capturing
the data is only the start of the job. The next logical step is
3D modelling - creating a metrically accurate and precise computer
replication of the object, person, building or landscape, using
the collected measurement data that exactly represents the form
of the subject matter. This is our passion and the quality of our
3D modelling is a matter of professional and personal pride.
In general, the complex art of 3D modelling,
which prepares geometric data for 3D computer applications is akin
to sculpting, whilst the production of 2D graphics is analogous
to painting. Advancements in software and, particularly in recent
years, hardware, allow us to produce increasingly cost-effective
3D models from digital survey data garnered from photogrammetry,
traditional survey measurement techniques and our various laser
scanners.
In architecture and urban design, 3D computer
models are the digital equivalent of the traditional balsa wood
and cork models. Nowadays, the use of 2D mapping and 3D digital
models are beginning to merge as 3D models are supplanting the traditional
CAD representations of buildings and cities in 2D. Uses for these
forms of 3D model range from the architecture and form of urban
planning, through facilities management to marketing and virtual
tourism.

Our modellers take the raw measurement data
and can produce people, objects, buildings and landscapes as constructed
solid and surface geometry, polygonal mesh and NURBS models, as
well as subdivision surfaces. As an additional process we can prepare
a head, body or object models for animation. The products can vary
widely - a game model might require a 2000 polygon model with no
accommodation for facial animation, where a movie model will have
a very different polygon count and a layout that is generally variable
depending on a client's rigging methods. Plowman Craven 3D can produce
your 3D models utilising a number of cost-effective methodologies,
from close range laser scanning through LIDAR scanning to terrestrial
and aerial photogrammetry. Plowman Craven 3D will provide a bespoke
3D modelling solution that is always accurate, informed and fit-for-purpose.
